    Time Event
    11:38p
    Moktar Wawadajab
What a lovely name. Moktar Wawadajab is Information Minister of Chad. The information is that the strength of Chad's army has been reduced from 24 000 to 19 000 by the simple expedient of finding out that the 5 000 didn't exist, they were a scam à la Lieutenant Kizhe for getting more money out of Ndjamena. When the soldiers pocketing it were caught they mutinied peacefully in protest at being broken down to the ranks they were really on.

So the syntax exam was untraumatic. Everyone was relieved; unlike the phonology, there were no machine-gun obscenities or tears. Everyone found enough solid, basic questions on aspects of GB theory that they could answer from their preparation. So that's a huge worry out the way. Several of us [drank|unwound] in the Jeremy Bentham for some time afterwards: I found out more about their linguistic interests, Ellie on imaging the brain during fiddle-singing, Matt on historical and on the nominative, Honor on schizophrenia and science. Told Tommy about Neogrammarianism, in trying to work out how Corcyra became Corfu.

    Current Mood: relieved
    Current Music: from Tyva
